New submersible pump to benifit Barili barangays

| by: Cris Lanie Delos Reyes

A submersible pump that costs P400,000 and four galvanized iron pipes from the Cebu Provincial Government will benefit  three barangays in Barili.

The water supply system which is managed by GICWASCO or Giloctong Japitan Candugay Water Service and Sanitation Cooperative is presently serving almost 400 households or 2,000 individuals.

Since the water distribution in Giloctog, Japitan and Candugay has been suffering for six months now due to a broken old pump, the delivery of the submersible pump is very timely.

The water system for the three barangays was organized since 1996 and operated in 1998.

“Isip chairman sa cooperative, akong dal-on ang tingog sa kinatibuk-an, kami nagpasalamat gyud ug daku sa financial assistance nga gikan sa kapitolyo alang sa pagpalit sa among bag-ong submersible pump (In behalf of the cooperative members, we are very thankful for the financial assistance provided by the Capitol to purchase the new pump),” said Nicasio Alquizalas, chairman of GJCWASCO.

When the old pump was unable to function well, the sitios situated in the higher places, such as Tinago, Ylaya, Santa Cruz, and Tagaytay, suffered from the irregular water distribution.

The chairman emphasized that the inconsistency of the water distribution is due to the broken pump and assured that they are monitoring the water level of the water source.

Alquizalas reassures the consumers that there is enough water despite the El Niño.

“Maayo nalang gani kay naay tubod dinhi, ang mga balay nga di na maabtan sa tubig kay dili naman maka pump og tarong ang makina, manglugsong nalang ug anhi magkabo ug manglaba sa tubod (It’s a good thing that we have spring water here so for those who could not get water out of the pump, they fetch water or wash laundry by the spring),”  said the Barangay Secretary Marivel Cabalida.

The new submersible pump was installed last May 25 and successfully tried the water flow later that day.

Provincial Board Member Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez  who attended the blessing of the equipment advised the cooperative members to maintain properly the newly-purchased item.
