Angkla Partylist Representetive Jesusilito “Jess “ Manalo returned to Cebu on June 24 to take his oath of office before Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III.

“This is because of my campaign promise before that I will work to the best of my ability to make Cebu the maritime hub in the country,” he said.

After the oath-taking done, Davide gave the floor to Manalo after briefly acknowledging a project the Angkla Partylist representative put up in Cebu.

The project is the MARINA Regional Center that will soon be constructed on a property owned by the province and donated to the Maritime Industry Authority. The signing of the deed of donation was in December 2015.

Manalo expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Cebuanos for his re-election. He said Cebu gave Angkla partylist the highest vote, with 51,000 over two other partylist groups for the maritime sector.

He recognized Gov. Davide as the first governor who entrusted him the maritime industry, which is manifested in the regional office that will soon rise to serve seafarers in the region.

He assured supporters in Cebu that he will conduct most of the hearings on the maritime industry not only on seafaring, domestic shipping but also on other areas of concern of the maritime sector.

Effective upon assumption of office and once entrusted by Congress with the relevant committee, Manalo will pursue his plans.

“This is a place where I have found myself a home. People have been friendly to me and I have always been welcomed by the political government, by the local government here,” he said. (Fides Palicte, with Sushmita Bravo and Shannen Iriarte, SWU BA Comm interns for PIO)
