The two-day holiday last Aug. 21 and 25 failed to lure job hunters into making a long trip home in their towns. Instead, many joined in the local job fair at the Capitol Social Hall held last Aug. 24.
More than 1,000 job seekers have participated in the event, hoping to find their respective places in any of the 34 firms recruiting qualified applicants. Of the 1,107 applicants, 604 were females and 503 males. Around 1,073 of them who underwent interview. Some 883 of the applicants were considered for final interview.
There were lucky ones who were hired on the spot (HOTS). Fifty-four females and 26 males were hired by various establishments, such as Gaisano Main and Cebu Mitsumi, Inc. among others.
One of those HOTS was Liza Salmeron, 21, from Capitol Site, Cebu City. She said that it was her first time to try her luck in joining the fair and was just fortunate to be included as one of the HOTS by Cebu Mitsumi.
Another lucky guy, Joseph Abapo, 22, from Cebu City was also hired on the spot by the representative from the Gaisano Main. However, there were 121 applicants who were unprepared in going to the event and lacked the needed documents. Others have failed to qualify.
There were some individuals who did not participate in the job fair but were just taking advantage of the services of participating government agencies, such as the NBI, SSS, Phil-Health Insurance, NSO and the legal services of the Provincial Prosecutors Office and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Cebu Chapter that catered to their respective needs.
