It was a year ago when Jesse Robredo passed away. However, his legacy of good governance and virtuous leadership will always be remembered by the Filipino people whose lives he has touched.
Robredo first became a public official in 1988 when he won the 1988 mayoral elections in Naga City. His victory made him the youngest elected mayor in Philippine history. After six (6) terms and nineteen (19) years as mayor of Naga City, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III appointed Robredo as Department of Interior and Local Government (“DILG”) Secretary in June 2010. Robredo met his untimely demise last August 2012 when he figured in a plane crash off the seas of Masbate.
In commemorating his death anniversary, the Jesse Robredo Foundation, together with the Ateneo School of Government and Kaya Natin Movement, launched the three-day memorabilia exhibit on the life and inspiring works of the late Secretary at the third floor level, SM City Cebu.
The late Secretary’s wife, Rep. Leni Robredo, together with the Kaya Natin Movement officers and Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III, lead the ribbon cutting ceremony. In his speech, Governor Davide said that he was one of the supporters of the late Secretary, who was a very simple, hardworking and dedicated public servant.
The exhibit will run from August 15-18, 2013, entitled Jesse Robredo: Modern – Day Filipino Hero that features Jesse Robredo as a Family Man, Multi-Awarded Mayor, DILG Secretary, Public Education Reform Advocate, Champion of Good Governance, Champion of Persons with Disabilities and Champion for the Marginalized.
