In preparation for the Halad sa Kabataan event this month, the Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children (PCWC) held a seminar-workshop for the 12 finalists of the vocal duet and 12 finalists of guitar duet contests.
The one-day workshop was held at the Vice Governor’s Office on Sept. 26 starting at 9 a.m. Music authorities, Prof. Naila Y. Beltran of the Cebu Normal University and award-winning composer-arranger Niño James Bañares, lectured on tonal quality of the guitar, quality of the strings to be used, choice of music and other mechanics to the guitar duet finalists and their respective coaches.
Vocal coaches from the Center for Pop led by branch manager Jay Unchuan spoke on the choice of song, vocal projection, mirroring, echoing, facial expression, body language, stage deportment and others with only the vocal duet finalists as audience.
Staff of Soundtraxx Production Studio were also present to help facilitate the workshop. The studio is contracted by the PCWC for the technical aspect of the competition.
The Halad sa Kabataan grand finals will be held on Wed., Oct. 30, 2013, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Cebu Cultural Center across the University of the Philippines Cebu Campus in Lahug, Cebu City.
Aside from the vocal and guitar duets, a competition of rondallas from different local government units of the province will also be held that same day. (Roger Serna)
