At least 5,353 rice packs were prepared by the Cebu Provincial Government for the eight barangays of Talisay City during the Halad Alang Kang Lolo ug Lola on Wednesday.

Among the recipient barangays included Lawaan I, Lawaan II, Linao, Mohon, Pooc, Biasong, Poblacion and San Roque.

“The rice packs that we are going to distribute may not be big as it seems but this is heartily given by the province. The welfare of the senior citizens is one that is close to the heart of Capitol officials,” said Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale in Cebuano.

Magpale encouraged senior citizens to be united so that it would be easier for the Capitol to address their needs.

“Halad” is just part of the Capitol’s program called “Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon” with which unity is important to make it successful, she added.

During the distribution, the vice governor was joined by 1st district Provincial Board (PB) members Yolly Daan and Raul Bacaltos and  2nd district board member Jose Mari Salvador, who is the chairman of the committee on senior citizens.

Salvador is planning to give a P1 discount per liter to senior citizens in Talisay who will buy fuel in his gasoline station.

“We still need to discuss the program with board members Daan and Bacaltos. Hopefully, we can start it in August or September,” said Salvador after revealing that he had spent his childhood days in Talisay.

Based on the list submitted to the Capitol, Lawaan I has 1,137 recipients, Linao (492), Lawaan II (527), Mohon (653), Pooc (569), Biasong (248), Poblacion (1,129) and San Roque (598). (Kelvin Canizares/photo by Donald Moga)
