“I considered the drugs problem here very serious and we should be very serious in our efforts to stamp this out,” he said in a press conference at the Capitol.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7 and Philippine National Police 7 are all members of the anti-drug council, which was established by a provincial ordinance sponsored by Provincial Board Member Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca.
Davide said during the meeting he will ask for updates and status report as well as recommendations from the said law enforcement agencies.
In a courtesy call with PDEA 7 Regional Director Julius Navales last Monday, July 15, the governor assured his support to the agency.
“I told him if you need anything from the province will be happy to help,” said the governor, who also appreciated the efforts by the law enforcers in the province, which resulted to drug-related arrests.
He said the community in their own capacity should also help the government in its drive against drugs.
Fighting against drugs, Davide said will not be easy as the people involved are usually the wealthy ones, but it should not be an excuse.
Earlier, the governor also told the media that the next director of Police Regional Office 7, which was left vacant by the departure of Police Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo, should prioritize its anti-illegal drugs campaign. (Xerxes Alkuino)
