Gov to study environmental concerns on “oil find”

| by: Stanley Cin

_IGP3483Following the new oil discovery in central parts of Cebu Province, Governor Hilario P. Davide III said that the Provincial Government will have to ask the people and listen to their point of view first before the Province may proceed to any action regarding this recent find.

Governor Davide expressed his concern that in the past several objections were raised over the exploitation of these natural resources prompting him to make the necessary consultation first from the stakeholders.

Recently the national government made formal announcement of its new oil discovery in central parts of Cebu, and allowing an Australian company, Gas2Grid Ltd., to establish a commercial field in the area.

In an announcement, Gas2Grid Ltd. advised that” the Philippine Department of Energy has formally recognized Malolos-1 as an oil discovery on the shore of Cebu and approved an extension of SC (Service Contract) 44 in order to conduct oil production with the aim of establishing a commercial oil field”.

Governor Davide stressed the province will first weigh the pros and cons on any venture involving our natural resources especially with regards to environmental concerns. Diane Higida
