Gabii sa Kabilin: A glimpse of the legacies of the past

“As the soil, however rich it may be, cannot be productive without cultivation, so the mind without culture can never produce good fruit,” – Seneca, Roman Philosopher.

It was the last day of May and was the time to bid summer goodbye. Yet in the Province of Cebu, summer has ended remarkably significant where high-culture becomes a trend, nightlife becomes intellectual, and we begin to fall in love with our own city.

On its seventh run this year, last May 31 the annual event “Gabii Sa Kabilin” (GSK) or “Night of Heritage” organized by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) had once again made its mark. GSK, patterned after Germany’s Lange Nacht der Museen or Long Night of the Museums, which incidentally, is also celebrated in some countries in Europe, is held every last Friday of May that starts from 6 pm up to 12 midnight.

GSK is an event participated in by most museums and heritage organizations of the Province of Cebu held in line with the month-long celebration of National Heritage Month (NHM) partnered with the National Commission for Culture and Arts and collaborated with Cebu Local Government Units (LGUs).
