Flashfloods damaged three barangays in Danao City

Strong rains which resulted to flooding of three barangays in Danao City last Monday, July 15. A thunderstorm occurred at about 3 p.m. which brought with it heavy rains according to Mrs. Lenida Batican, a teacher of Sandayong Sur Elementary School.

The affected areas were barangays Sandayong, Tuburan and Poblacion in Danao City. Waters got inside the houses and some vehicles were stranded due to the inundation in the highways.

Rosalie Donoso, 42 years old and a resident of Brgy. Sandayong, was badly affected as the incident resulted to a landslide that wrecked the back portion of her house.

“Baynte uno na ko ka tuig nagpuyo diri. Sukad ko naminyo karon pa ko kasuway ani (I had been living here for 21 years. It’s only this time that I underwent such experience) “, she lamented.
She does not plan to relocate though and leave her house which she had built with her savings while working in a manufacturing company. Most of the areas in Brgy. Sandayung were affected by the flashflood and damaging plants including bananas, among others.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Neil Angelo Sanchez led a team in conducting an ocular inspection in Barangay Sandayung Sur the following day, July 16. He said, he will recommend to Governor Hilario Davide III giving of financial assistance to the affected families in the said area. (Lee Dela Cerna)
