The Cebu Provincial Government rehabilitated what was once to be a neglected farm-to-market road in Minglanilla.
Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III led the ceremonial opening of the Tubod-Cuanos-Sitio Lubas, Campo 7 Road last May 26.
“Dugay na kaayong panahon nga wa ni matagad. Dili gyud makaagi ang four wheels, habal-habal ra (This road was neglected for a long time. No four-wheel vehicles can pass the road, only motorcycles),” Cuanos Barangay Captain Alan Bastida said.
The Capitol sent heavy equipment to the area last March. The governor also gave Php 200,000 financial aid for the 300-meter road concreting in Sitio Banggaan, Cuanos.
About one kilometer from Tubod to Cuanos, however, remains a rough road.
Bastida said the road connects to the vegetable farm in Sitio Lubas. He estimated 4,000 commuters would benefit from the newly-rehabilitated road.
Bastida said the people from upland areas deserve a better road from the government as well. With the rehabilitated road, other forms of mass transportation will now be available in the area.
Before, the residents in the area only rode habal-habal or motorcycles for hire to get to the town proper. Its fare then was twice higher than that of tricycles.
Cornelio Cabuenas, a resident of Cuanos also stated, “Pasalamat mi kay karon makaminos na mi sa plete tungod maakagi naman ang tricycle (We are thankful that tricycles are now available here so we can save some penny from our fare).”
