The swimming pool and track oval of Dumanjug were reopened last May 20.
Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale cut the ceremonial ribbon.
Dumanjug Acting Mayor Efren Guntrano Gica, Provincial Board Members Peter John Calderon and Christopher Baricuatro who is a native of Dumanjug, some members of the Sangguniang Bayan and other town and barangay officials and employees attended the event.
Fr. Uldarico Flores blessed the ceremony.
Seeing the potential of the facilities, Gica included them in his priority projects and had them cleared of tall grasses and shrubs for public use.
The said facilities were implemented during the administration of former Mayor Cesar Baricuatro, which produced scholars in swimming. Two of these young athletes are Kyle Nemel and Rina Fernandez, both now members of a big university’s swimming team.
The town had also hosted national and provincial sports and athletics competitions in the past. However, the facilities were not given due attention since then and were said to have been frequented by delinquents for their clandestine activities.
Gica and former Mayor Baricuatro jointly expressed their hopes that as soon as he reassumes office, Mayor Nelson Garcia will be able to appreciate the value of the facilities and will include them in his priority projects so that many young Dumanjuganons will be able to pursue their dreams of acquiring higher education banking on the trainings they will undergo in the facilities.
