DPWH: Cebu Province gets P23.3B worth of infra projects since 2010

Cebu Province received Php 23.349 billion worth of infrastructure projects through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 within 2010 to 2015.

The DPWH allocated Php 9 billion more for Cebu Province in its 2016 budget.

Malacañang debunked critics that Cebu Province received zero infrastructure projects under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Aquino was in Cebu last August 24 for various activities in the city. He was briefed by DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson on the major infrastructure projects in the province. The briefing was held at the Cebu City District Engineering Office Pier 3, Cebu City.

He said, “Ibahin po nila tayo dito sa daang matuwid. Ang ating mga programa ay purpose-driven at need-driven.”

_MG_4860The President took the opportunity to thank his “Cebuano bosses” who have been with him in the past five years. He also thanked Cebu for being the repacking quarter for those victims of typhoon Yolanda even as northern Cebu was also badly hit.

Apart from the DPWH-funded projects, more than Php 8.7 billion worth of projects have been implemented with funding by other national government agencies.

Governor Hilario P. Davide III said the President has been taking care of Cebu’s infrastructure. But there are people who just refused to be pleased.

In his SOPA last week, he informed that Php 2 billion is earmarked for Cebu’s vital links leading to tourist spots should the proposed 2016 national budget be approved in Congress.

“We know deep in our hearts that you love Cebu. Because you love Cebu, you poured billions of pesos of infrastructure projects for Cebu’s further development,” Davide addressed Aquino during the briefing.

Some of the projects mentioned by the President are the concreting and improvement of the Mactan Circumferential Road, Sergio Osmeña Boulevard, and the rehabilitation of road from Barangay Curva, Medellin to Barangay Poblacion, Daanbantayan.

The Medellin-Daanbatayan Road is a 16.33-kilometer provincial road that leads to Maya RoRo Port to Malapascua Island, a known tourist spot of the town.

The rehabilitation of the road was implemented through the Department of Tourism-DPWH Tourism Convergence Road Project.

It provides easy and convenient access to local vacationers and foreign visitors and lessened the travel time from Daanbatayan from 3 hours to 2.5 hours.

The President also mentioned the rehabilitation of the Cebu International Convention Center, which is to be made as an exposition center of the province’s finest products.
