The Department of Interior and Local Government Region (DILG) 7 turned over checks worth Php 23.8 million for the rehabilitation of infrastructure in nine local government units (LGUs) in southern Cebu devastated by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake in October 2013.
DILG 7 Regional Director Ananias Villacorta and Provincial Director Jerome Gonzales handed over checks to the mayors of Municipalities of Alcoy (Php 3.12 million), Boljoon (Php 11.12 million), Dalaguete (Php 1.11 million), Moalboal (Php 1.3 million), Samboan (Php 260,000.00), and Carcar City (Php 2.11 million) at the Diamond Suites last Aug. 5.
Checks for the municipalities of Argao, Alegria and Sibonga will be given as soon as the program of works submitted are complete.
The funds allocated for the LGUs are part of the Php 2.389-billion budget of the Bohol Earthquake Assistance (BEA).
The BEA was set up to rebuild and rehabilitate earthquake-damaged local public infrastructures/facilities like city and town halls and other government buildings, civic centers, day care centers, barangay halls, health centers, public markets, bridges, and waterworks systems.
Apart from the distribution, the LGUs were also briefed and discussed with the guidelines to hasten the implementation of BEA.
The BEA conference had members of the Provincial Project Management Team that includes DILG and Department of Public Works and Highways officials, municipal planning engineers and planning officers, and people from Commission on Audit.
“We all have agreed with the mayors (here) that before we release the checks to them they should be oriented with the guidelines to ensure proper implementation. The mayors are accountable for the funds,” Villacorta said.
