Around 3.2 million devotees joined the foot procession, which left the Basilica del Sto. Niño at 1:55 pm. It went through Magallanes St., Borromeo St., Sanciangko St., Panganiban St., N. Bacalso Avenue, V. Rama Ave., B. Rodriguez St., Osmeña Boulevard and back to the Basilica.
The head of the procession arrived in V. Rama past 1:00 pm while the original image of the infant Jesus passed through the street at 3:30 pm.
Thousands of devotees waited for the image of the Holy Child on the street. The 400-year old image only visited V. Rama twice in several years, according to Helen del Rosario, 60, a resident of Barangay Calamba, Cebu City.
Del Rosario said she prayed for good health and fine weather. As she no longer can take the long road of the procession, she only waited for the image to pass her house. Her family accompanied her.
Lourdes Llanos, 52, also prayed for peace, and the success of her youngest child, who is about to take the board examination for physical therapists this February.
Llanos said her faith grows stronger as the years pass by. In 1980s, she recalled, she was diagnosed with diabetes that resulted to chronic complications. She believed her devotion to Sto. Niño saved her life.
The tail end of the foot procession left V. Rama at 4:30 pm. Xerxes Alkuino
