Guillermo Oroc, a 43 year old native of Negros Oriental was arrested for allegedly sneaking in dried marijuana at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) on Sunday, February 1.
Oroc who has been living in Cebu City for 7 months was working as a delivery boy for his brother in law who supplies vegetables in the jail.
Oroc said, an inmate who he knew only by the name “Benido” asked him if he could carry his personal items from his daughter when he comes back to CPDRC. He then agreed to meet Benido’s daughter.
Tight security measures were implented in the facility that busted Oroc. They confiscated 500 grams of suspected marijuana and handed the material over to Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory Office 7 (PNPCLO 7) for specimen verification.
Oroc denied that he was selling marijuana and said he had no idea that a drug material is concealed in the bag.
However, acting provincial warden Romeo Manansala said, Oroc might have violated R.A. No. 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002. This Republic Act penalizes any person who is involved in the selling, transporting or distributing, trading, administering, dispensing of any dangerous drugs and other similar substances.
Republic Act 9165 imposes a penalty of life imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from P500,000.00 to P10,000,000.00 depending on the quantity of the drugs involved.
Fortunato Oroc, the brother of Guillermo said that they do not expect this to happen to him.
“Bootan ug responsable ni siya nga pagkatawo. Wala gyud ni siya makasuway nga na-priso sauna, karon lang gyud.” (He is a kind and a responsible person. He was not detained for any crime before, just now.) Fortunato said.
Today, he was temporarily detained at the Guadalupe Police Station. They are still waiting of the result from the PNPCLO 7 for the next steps.
