Governor Hilario P. Davide III lauded the efforts and commended the agenda formulated by the youth delegates as being consistent with the six-key agenda of his administration during the first Cebu Provincial Youth Summit held last November 30 at the Montebello Villa Hotel.
The governor vowed that the administration will always support the endeavors of the youth.
The first lady of the Province, Mrs. Jobel Angan-Davide, also gave her warmest congratulations to the youth delegates for crafting their own agenda.
She said that the event was the right venue for the youth in knowing their direction, ending her speech with the event tagline, “Kabatan-onang Sugbuanong Nagpakabana.”
Elviena Subang, OIC head for training of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), stated that the event was the result of a year-long plan.
In her presentation, she stated that the Provincial Youth Summit was the outcome of numerous consultations.
The ultimate goal was for the youth to create their own agenda for policy-making and institutionalize a Local Youth Development Office in their respective towns, she added.
The summit, attended by youths from all 51 municipalities and component cities of Cebu, was organized by the Provincial Youth Commission (PYC), in partnership with PDRRMO, the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO), the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
CPADAO head Carmen Durano-Meca explained in her presentation that the “sectors involving the youth is not only relevant but also important.”
“The topic of drug abuse is at the forefront of our present administration,” said Durano-Meca, adding that it is important to make strong actions today.
PYC Executive Director Charlton James Canoy emphasized that youth development is everybody’s concern where the summit is the beginning of more collaboration with relevant offices.
The summit also unveiled their 10-point agenda for 2018 as a guide to their succeeding programs and projects for youth involvement after youth leaders presented their accomplishment reports for 2017.
Also present were National Youth Commission chairperson Aiza Seguerra and representatives from different regional offices such as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Commission on Population (POPCOM), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Provincial Board members Yolanda Daan, Miguel Antonio Magpale and Glenn Bercede also expressed their support to the youth delegates, as well as Oslob Municipal Mayor Jun Tumulak, Badian Mayor Carmencita Lumain and San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez.
