Governor Hilario Davide III expressed willingness to help the Department of Education (DepEd) – Cebu Province establish a permanent office and said he is open to the possibility of donating the Capitol-owned property the agency is currently occupying.
Davide admitted that DepEd – Cebu Province officials met with him on Thursday, July 11, and asked if he could award the said property to the agency. “I will take this matter up with the Provincial Board because this concerns a very vital agency of the government,” Davide told the media in a press conference at the Capitol. DepEd – Cebu Province is currently occupying the building formerly utilized by the Provincial Health Office at Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.
Meanwhile, Davide said he would seek the help of private institutions as well as the national government to address the shortage of classrooms in the province. He said he is going to meet the Secretary of Education in Manila once everything is in place at the Capitol.
DepEd -Cebu Province alone is short of around 700 classrooms.
