More than P2,700 worth of stingrays were seized in Mandaue City Wet Market following the surprise inspection conducted by the Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force (CPAIFTF) on Tuesday.
CPAIFTF head Col. Lyndon Ruiz said 12 stingrays were displayed for selling in stalls owned by Modesta Patindol, a residence of Mantoyong, Mandaue City, Leonard Fabillar and Elvira Casasadaba, both from Consolacion town.
“The task force found the suspects selling the stingrays along with other fishes which allegedly came from Bohol,” Ruiz said.
Section 10 of the Provincial Ordinance 2012-05 as amended prohibited the dealing, selling or disposing of rare, threatened or endangered Species. Among them were the stingrays.
Ruiz said these cartilaginous fishes will be buried in the nursery near the Capitol. (Chad Cordova Bacolod)
