Cebu Tourism goes Digital in Argao

In an effort to promote the cultural and heritage sites of the Province, Cebu Tourism goes Digital— Cebuano history, tradition, tourist spots, and architectural structures can be viewed using Android phones through QR or quick response codes.

The Cebu Provincial Government successfully launched the first Digital Tourism in partnership with the Smart Communications and Inno Pub on 27 September 2013 at the Cabecera de Argao.

The event was attended by Governor Hilario Davide III, with his wife, Mrs. Jobel Angan-Davide, Tuburan Mayor Aljun Diamante , Argao Officials and the partners of the said event.

Mr. Max Limpag of Inno Pub explained the rationale of the event which are to harness technology to enhance tourism, provide tourists with timely accurate digital tourism, production of e-guide books, apps for phones, tablets and e-readers through scanning of the QR codes, etc.

Mayor Edcel Galeos was also thankful to the Provincial Government for leading such event launched in their town with the coordination with Smart Communications, Inno Pub and with the media. “Kini akong nakita nga dako kayo og matabang sa among turismo, nasayod ta nga modern na kayo ang technology, and we’re very proud na nakasubay ta sa teknolohiya karon nga bag-o na kaayo.”, Galeos added.

To download the information, the Smartphone needs to have an internet connection and download QR code scanner through the application market. Aside from information, the web-based guide also features an interactive map using the gadget’s global positioning system or GPS that allows tourists to locate the place where they want to visit. The QR codes are located at the Vicinity of the Cabecera de Argao which is the town’s rich in culture and heritage.

Expressing his optimism with the successful launch of the project, Gov. Davide said that he intends to implement a similar project to all municipalities in the Province. (Lee Dela Cerna)
