A month before Cebu will host Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings, Cebu’s top officials have gone to great lengths to ensure that the international event will be successful.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza met with Governor Hilario P. Davide III at his office on Monday to unite for the preparation of the APEC Summit in August.
“Our discussion turned out well. We have to put our best foot forward because we are hosting meetings for international delegates,” Davide said.
“Mayor Rama, Mayor Radaza, Mayor Cortes and I have agreed for a united direction. We will do everything in our power to ensure that the APEC meetings in Cebu will be all set. We can do that through cooperation,” Davide added.
For Rama, “We should be one. And we will give our support.”
In a closed door dialogue with the mayors, Davide said traffic remains to be their biggest concern, especially when road works are being done in most of the major roads.
“In our discussion with the mayors, our major concern is the road projects of the DPWH. In fact I already relayed this to Ambassador Paynor to tell the DPWH to speed up the road works and if it can go 24/7 in time for APEC, then that would be better,” Davide said, presiding the executive committee meeting yesterday.
APEC meeting venues include Marco Polo Hotel, Marriott Hotel, Radisson Blu, Shangri-la’s Mactan Island Resort, and Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
Cebu will be hosting series of meetings from August to September with more than 3,000 international delegates expected to be coming in and out of Cebu during the said period.
