With a simple 444th Founding Anniversary celebration, the Cebu Provincial Government saved a total of P6.27 million.
Governor Hilario P. Davide III only approved P1.73 million budget for the festivities compared to last year’s P2.595 million under the administration of former Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
A big expense item, the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo Festival of Festivals, was scrapped. With its P5 million allocation in the 2013 annual budget, the scrapping allowed the Capitol to save a total of P6.27 million.
Earlier, the provincial board allocated P5 million for the Provincial Culture and Arts Development Program, which included the above mentioned festival. The original budget was P15 million but reduced by the provincial board.
Davide said he was grateful for all the blessings the province has received and looked forward to a brighter future.
“We don’t need to spend much in order to give a meaningful fiesta celebration for the 444th Founding Anniversary of the province of the Cebu,” the governor added.
The Capitol’s week long celebration with the theme “Pagtambayayong Alang sa Kalambuan Ug Kauswagan” opened last August 1 with the traditional raising of all municipal, city and national colors plus the “Agri-Trade Fair” at the back of the Capitol building.
It was followed by a breakfast with local chief executives at the Capitol Social Hall, whose attendance was almost perfect. They also witnessed the signing ceremony of the memorandum of agreement for the Our Cebu program, which seeks to capacitate the local government units to make a livable Cebu.
The program aims to enhance the province’s livability and sustainability with the following attributes: Green, Liveability, Inclusiveness and Competitiveness, Historical and Cultural, Resiliency and Good Governance.
The governor was among the early donors for the blood-letting at the “Health and Wellness Day” last August 2, where he donated 450 cc of blood. He was the seventh donor during the activity conducted by the province with the participation of the Department of Health.
From a month-long event, this year’s founding anniversary celebration was limited to only seven days. Culminating the festivity was the Gabii sa Sugbo, a low-key dinner hosted by the governor with the vice governor, provincial board members, local chief executives, diplomatic corps and ARENA 7 members.
