Capitol remembers Cebu’s Grand Old Man

A great Cebuano and a great Filipino was how Governor Hilario P. Davide III described the late Pres. Sergio Osmeña Sr. during flag raising rites and wreathe laying at the Capitol grounds last September 9, 2016.

Davide led Capitol employees and department heads in the observance of the Grand Old Man’s 138th birth anniversary.

The Osmeña statue, Davide said, is a constant reminder for Capitol employees how well Don Sergio served his country.

He was the 4th President of the Philippines and the second under the Commonwealth Republic.

He succeeded Pres. Manuel L. Quezon who died in 1944 and earlier served as governor of Cebu from 1906 to 1907.

He was selfless and a dedicated public servant.

Davide hoped Capitol employees will emulate Don Sergio’s virtues and character about being truthful and sincere in government service.

“Let us continue to serve with dedication, with faithfulness in our oath of office,” expressed Davide. (Fides Palicte)
