Capitol receives wheelchairs for hospitals

Cebu Provincial Government received has received 50 regular brand-new wheelchairs worth Php 140,000.00 from the Filipino-Chinese Amity Club (FCAC) national and Cebu chapters.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale received the donations on March 6 in behalf of Governor Hilario P. Davide III who was in Manila.

“We are very grateful to these donations. We really need this medical equipment,” expressed Magpale.

FCAC national chapter vice president Chan Man Fai said the wheelchairs are intended to help the less-fortunate in the community.

“The provincial government can decide who the beneficiaries of the wheelchairs would be, as long as they give them to the needy,” he added.

Provincial Health Officer Cynthia Genesolango said the donated wheelchairs will be distributed to the four provincial and 12 district hospitals of the province.

“We will look into the current inventory of each hospital and see how many of their wheelchairs are still functioning. Then, we will distribute accordingly,” she said.

She added that the provincial hospitals will get more because of bigger capacity of patients being catered to.

FCAC was organized in 1975 after the establishment of the diplomatic relations of the Philippines and China, said Chan.

“We aim to enhance and strengthen friendly relations among Filipinos and Chinese,” he added.

“The whole of Cebu is one big Chinatown. The friendship of Filipinos and Chinese here is never lost,” expressed Magpale. Lianne Llesol
