Capitol gives relief goods to fire victims

1966893_674292405945999_1324711261_nThe Provincial Government distributed 1500 food packs to the victims of Lorega fire which broke out last March 17. The fire affected almost 4000 individuals or 894 families.

Some 317 families, staying at the old Sacred Heart School gym evacuation center, benefited from the relief efforts of the provincial government.

Ethel T. Natera, Provincial Information Officer, led the distribution of relief goods to the fire victims. Cebu City Administrator Dr. Lucille Mercado and City Social Welfare Ester Concha were also present at the activity.

The food packs contained three (3) kilos of rice, four (4) tins sardines and two (2) packs of noodles. The Provincial Government also gave out 50 sacks of used clothing,  50 cartons of bottled water, 100 packs of biscuits, and 10 sets of tents.

The old Sacred Heart School gym housed fire victims form three (3) sitios (Laguna, Camansi and Lawis). Other evacuation centers include, Zapatera Elementary School, T. Padilla Gym, Lorega Gym and Day-as Gym.

Evelyn Senajon, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer, said that after the fire incident they immediately communicated to the city officials that the province will augment the relief efforts.

In a meeting with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Senajon said Rama extended his gratitude to Governor Hilario P. Davide III for the relief assistance.

To recall, the Cebu City government was quick to give assistance to the provincial government during the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda in northern Cebu. “The provincial government is just paying forward,” Natera said.  Diane Higida
