The Cebu Provincial Government joined the nationwide simultaneous flag-raising ceremony in celebration of the 116th Philippine Independence Day.
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III led the ceremony with Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Provincial Board Members, new Philippine National Police (PNP-7) Chief Prudencio Bañas, Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Noel Gillamac, and Regional Intelligence Division 7 Chief Paul Labra.
Capitol employees stated the Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas and sang the Sugbo Hymn. A wreath was put in the statue of Lapu-lapu to honor Cebuanos’ fight for independence.
“We commemorate the 116th anniversary of our independence to recall the sacrifices our forbearers have done when they fought for freedom,” said Davide. “We owe them a great deal.”
He challenged the future generation to “remember the choices the ancestors had to make in doing the right and just over the convenient and expedient.”
“It is our duty and obligation to preserve our freedom that the forbearers fought so hardly for versus foreign domination,” he said.
Davide assured that the provincial government continues to protect and preserve civil liberties of Cebuanos.
As new PNP-7 chief, Bañas assured to continue the works done by previous administrations. He shared that his priority thrusts include focused operations on anti-illegal drugs, anti-illegal gambling and ecotourism protection.
He shared that Davide and Gillamac agreed to work together in fighting drug menace in Cebu.
