Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III and Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office executive director Ivy Durano-Meca recently handed out almost Php 500,000 worth of cash incentives to about 30 Danao City and Balamban police for their successful operations conducted early this year.
“It has been the policy of the Province to provide incentives to police officers responsive to their duties and the growing clamour for protective measures against this social menace,” said Davide.
“This is reassuring the public that government is doing all it can to eradicate illegal drugs,” he added.
In the buy-bust operation conducted by Danao City police force last January, a drug pusher was arrested and about Php 300,000 worth of shabu was confiscated.
Another drug pusher was also arrested and about P250,000 worth of shabu was confiscated in a buy-bust operation conducted by Balamban police.
Since PNP’s Operation “Tokhang” (toktok-hangyo) was launched, about 7,000 drug users and pushers surrendered to the police.
Meca shared private rehabilitation centers in the Province are willing to help those who have surrendered.
Davide is optimistic more will surrender now that private rehab centers have expressed their willingness to assist the Province.
He thanked Danao City and Balamban policemen for their commitment despite the risks they face every day.
“The men and women in uniform are not just dealing with ordinary users and pushers. They could be dealing with syndicates,” said Davide.
“Mag-amping kanunay. Kanunay gyud magbalon ug 45 ug long arms (guns).” Davide told the policemen
Aside from cash, Danao City and Balamban policemen also received a commendation from the Provincial Board for their effective law enforcement. (Fides Palicte)
