The Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Commission (CPADAC) recognized police officers for successful drug raids in Bogo City and Medellin town this year.
Governor Hilario P. Davide III said the “Capitol is serious in its campaign against illegal drugs” and will continue giving incentives to police officers for their success.
He said based on the records of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, almost all towns in the province have problems with drugs.
The province is addressing the issue through the activities of the CPADAC. This includes the random drug testing of government employees including those in the barangay level.“We are encouraging all our local government units up to the barangays to support this program,” he said.
In an answer, Police Superintendent Rodolfo Albotra Jr., head of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), stated the Capitol’s support is morale boosting.“This will encourage other police units in the province to exert more efforts in their campaign against illegal drugs,” he said. The incentives given ranged from Php 2,500 to Php 10,000.
PO3 Lea Juarez, who acted as the poseur-buyer in the buy bust operation in Barangay Malingin, Bogo City, said as police officers, neutralization of the illegal drug trade gives them the sense of ultimate fulfillment.
From January up to the present, Albotra claimed they have confiscated between Php 25 to 30 million worth of illegal drugs. A few weeks ago, around Php 23.6 million of shabu was also confiscated in San Remigio. Albotra said it was their biggest haul so far.
More than the monetary value, Albotra said the continuous operations of the authorities slowed down the distribution of illegal drugs in the province. He added that it would put the drug dealers in the situation to think over their illegal trade.
