The municipality of Bantayan bagged the Outstanding Sanggunian award from the Philippine Councilors League (PCL).
Governor Hilario P. Davide III handed P100,000 cash to the officials of Bantayan headed by Vice Mayor Chad Kenneth Escario-Cañares.
He was planked by PCL-Cebu Chapter President Provincial Board Member Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca and Jerome Gonzales, provincial director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The municipalities of Barili and Compostela placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 1st to 3rd class municipalities’ category. The awarding was held at the Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City last Dec. 4 during the PCL-Cebu Chapter general assembly and Christmas party.
The local legislative award is conferred to a Sangguniang Panglungsod or Sangguniang Bayan that demonstrated exemplary performance for period July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2015.
It recognizes local legislative bodies, which excel in the enactment of ordinances or resolutions that ultimately contribute to the attainment of desirable socio-economic and environmental outcomes.
Davide congratulated the winners. He also praised the provincial league under the leadership of Meca, saying that they are a “force” for their cohesiveness and a vital component to realize his ultimate agenda: Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon.
Gonzales said Bantayan will have a chance to win the same award in the regional level. He said the Cebu Provincial Government was also the source of the P100,000 cash prize while the DILG only facilitated the implementation of the search.
The selection criteria includes effectiveness of legislative agenda, availability of legislative documents, efficiency of performance of the Sanggunian, quality of office set-up and staff complement, legislative citations and awards, capacity development for legislators and staff.
