Badian seniors get relief

| by: Xerxes Alkuino

At least 779 senior citizens in Badian town received relief assistance from the Cebu Provincial Government last Nov. 27.

Governor Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale led the distribution of the goods through the provincial government’s Halad kang Lolo ug Lola program.

Davide announced that with the creation of the Provincial Senior Citizens Council, the province is considering the distribution of cash assistance.

Magpale also informed that the senior citizens are mandatory Philhealth members as provided by law. They just need to get the identification from the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.

The recipients came from six barangays: Bugas, Tigbao, Santicon, Sohoton, Taytay, and Basak.

The distribution was held in Bugas Barangay Hall for the 178 beneficiaries in the barangay. For the 239 senior citizens in Tigbao, Santicon and Sohoton, the distribution was done in Tigbao covered court.

For the 362 beneficiaries in Taytay and Basak, the goods were given in Taytay covered court.

The relief assistance was composed of two kilos of rice, three cans of sardines and two packs of powdered milk.

Felixberto Verano, 66, said they were hungry for this kind of service. He said they envied those residing in their neighboring towns where the elderly people were taken cared of.

Gamay raman ni apan, ang amo lang nga naay taga gobyerno nga nagpakabana namo ba (We knew that these cannot sustain their needs but it reflects the government’s concern for us),” he said.
