Mayor Edsel Galeos of Argao said that after several postponements, the Provincial Sports Meet would now push through.
Meanwhile, Governor Hilario P. Davide III has approved the resolution granting an aid of P 1.5 million to the Municipality of Argao to subsidize the expenses of the Palarong Panlalawigan. The Provincial Government has also allocated P3 million for fuel and hauling cost of filling materials to be used for the proposed Argao Sports and Recreational Center which is also the proposed site for the track and field event during the Palarong Panlalawigan.
In a meeting with Governor Davide, Mayor Galeos, along with the schools superintendents from Argao, thanked the Provincial Government for its support and financial assistance extended in preparation of the Palarong Panlalawigan.
Argao Municipal Administrator, Vip Semilla said that they are expecting 11 thousand participants from all over Cebu province for the Provincial Sports Meet. Arrival of athletes will be on January 25, 2014 while the formal opening ceremony will be on January 26, 2014. Semilla also added that being the host of this year’s Palarong Panlalwigan, Argao is set to derive economic benefits from this event. The Palarong Panlalawigan is projected to bring vigor to local businesses and an opportunity to boost tourism industry in Argao.
