Hosting some of the major meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2015 will contribute to Cebu’s economic growth and help generate more jobs, said Gov. Hilario “Junjun” Davide III.”Higayon kini natong mga Sugbuanon nga mapasundayag ang atong abilidad, ang atong pamatigayon, ang atong mga produkto, ang atong kina-iya. Let us work hard and show the best of Cebu,” he added during his second Report to the People (State of the Province Address) last Wednesday at the Provincial Capitol. (This is the time for us Cebuanos to showcase our abilities, our business environment, our products, and our attitudes.)
Cebu will host some major APEC 2015 events, including the Third Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM 3) as well as the finance, transportation, and energy ministerial meetings in September and October.
According to Davide, the agreements reached during these high-profile gatherings will spur the economic growth and development of the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region in the coming years.
“Indeed, these are vital gatherings that will define our future,” he pointed out.
Davide added that Cebu is proud to welcome the over 5,000 APEC delegates that will arrive starting August 22 for SOM 3.
The Philippines is this year’s host of the APEC 2015 Summit in keeping with its commitment as one of APEC’s 21 member economies.
The governor also said he is grateful for the help and cooperation of Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, other mayors in the province and government agencies as well as business and other private sector groups, colleges and universities, and the many others who have contributed to helping make the APEC a success.
