Alegria canyoneering resumes Sept 1

The local government unit of Alegria and Alegria Tour Operators Association (ATOA) are all systems go and ready to resume its canyoneering activities in Barangay Canlaob, Alegria, south of Cebu on September 1.

Alegria Mayor Verna V. Magallon presided the meeting last August 29 attended by the representatives from their local tourism office, local disaster risk reduction and management office, accredited tour operators and some local guides.

They agreed on some adjustments on the guidelines to be followed by the operators, guides and guest.

They also discussed insurance policies, duties and responsibilities and package rates as well as taxations.

The tourism office also introduced Alegria’s website where canyoneering activities and flow of the entire operations can be closely monitored.

Magallon expressed her enthusiasm about the opening.

“We are ready. Changes will be noticed and I assure you that it will be more organized and safe. Thank you for your understanding and full support,” said Magallon.

The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office (PDRRMO) will conduct inspection on the Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE) to be used in the canyoneering activity. PPEs will be tagged accordingly if said equipment passed the inspection.

Safety Management Plan is also required to tour operators for accreditation.

Seventy guides from Alegria and Badian are stepping up in their ladderized training with Basic Rope Rescue (BRR) and Swift Water Rescue (SWR). The training will be finished in time for the re-opening on September 1.

Canyoneering activities in Alegria were closed by Governor Hilario P. Davide III last June 1 until August 31. (Chad Cordova Bacolod)
