Age limit for tanods to be raised

Tanods up to the age of 65 will soon be able to continue their service in barangays under plans revealed by Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III last January 13, 2016.

The decision to raise the age limit from 60 to 65 was re-announced during the annual distribution of cash incentives for barangay workers in towns of Asturias, Tuburan, and Tabuelan.

The announcement was first made in Pinamungahan last year.

said Nonoy Pasaol, a 61-year-old tanod in Barangay Bankito Tuburan.

Pasaol also expressed that he is very thankful to the Cebu Provincial Government for considering their requests and for giving them more time to serve their village.

The extension will also entitle the tanods to still receive a cash incentive from the government.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale who was also present during the event, conveyed that she finds people aged 60 to 70, still strong enough for work.

“As long as they are willing, they are an asset to the barangay,” she added.

Moreover, a total of 1, 219 barangay tanods received P1, 500 each during the separate distributions.

The Municipality of Tuburan yielded the biggest number counting up to 824 tanods; followed by 254 from Asturias and 141 for Tabuelan.

“Abi ko’g wala ko malista kay bag-o pa baya ko pero pag-check nila og balik, salamat naa ra diay akong ngalan (I thought I was not included in the master list since I’m new to this job. Thankfully, they found my name when they re-checked the list),” expressed the 27-year-old tanod.

Aside from the tanods, 613 barangay health workers and 92 barangay nutrition scholars also got their P2, 400 cash incentive.

The distribution was also graced by 3rd District Provincial Board Member Hon. Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez and Councilor Jeffrey Anthony “Tonton” Yapha together with the Mayors of Tuburan and Tabuelan. Renra Faith Sayon
