Cebu all geared up for the biggest triathlon event in the Philippines, reminds motorists of re-routing

With the biggest triathlon event set to take center stage on Sunday, August 7, all motorists and other road users are advised to take notice and be reminded of road closures, re-routing and detours and to follow traffic directional signages during the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship.

Several roads will be closed in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapulapu to make way for the big event hosted by the province for 5 consecutive years now.

Specific roads that will be closed to motorists include the ones that lead to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and the streets leading to resorts in Lapu-Lapu City; the South Road Properties (SRP) and the South Road Tunnel in Cebu City; the Ouano Avenue in Mandaue’s reclamation area up to the Marcelo Fernan Bridge; and, the South Coastal Road and Talisay Fish Port to Cong. Bacaltos Road, to make way for the athletes.

Most of the race events will be held at the Shangri-la’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa, Punta Engano in Lapu-Lapu City but the biking event will run through Cebu, Mandaue, and Talisay cities.

Road closures will start at 4am until 2pm. Road barriers will be installed in most of the intersections to strictly prevent vehicles from entering the race route.

On August 6, 2015,  Lapu-Lapu City will also play host again to the Alaska IRONKIDS which will also implement road closures on most streets leading to resorts such as the Angasil road, Kabesang Tasyo road up to Mangal Punta Engano. It will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6:00 am up to 10:00 am only.

Drivers are urged to use extra caution, be aware of runners, bikers, pedestrians and spectators, and to anticipate traffic delays.

2016 Cobra Iron Man 70.30 (TRAFFIC ADVISORY)REV

In Lapu-Lapu, the affected roads will be from Punta Engaño (Kabesang Tasyo Road) to Manuel L. Quezon National Highway to the Junction of Marcelo Fernan Bridge. The road from Goldberry Hotel, Pusok, up to Punta Engaño will be closed from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. while the Punta Engaño side up to Amisa will be opened at 5 p.m.

In Mandaue, Ouano Ave. and Plaridel Street will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Marcelo Fernan Bridge,  Mandaue bound lane, is open to two-way vehicular traffic from & to Mactan Airport. All vehicles bound from Mandaue City and Northern Cebu are advised to take L. Jaena and MC Briones Streets, while those going to Lapu Lapu City and Mactan Airport are urged to take L. Jaena, MC Briones and UN Avenue or SB Cabahug and UN Avenue, and motorists bound for Mandaue City and Cebu can take MC Briones and L. Jaena.

In Cebu City, the entire Sergio Osmeña Blvd., from Mahiga Bridge leading to Legaspi Extension as well as the underpass going straight to South Road Property will be totally closed to traffic from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. All Pier bound vehicle pls take Plaza Independencia & Pier 1.

In Talisay, there will be total road closure from Talisay Fish Port Cebu South Coastal Road to Cong. Bacaltos Roads from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

FOR IRONKIDS: Lapu-Lapu: Punta Engaño road will also be closed on August 6, 2016 for the Ironkids.
