Cebu Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale turned over five ambulance units amounting to P8.495 million (P1.699 million each) for the towns of Badian, Boljoon, Compostela, San Fernando and Minglanilla in a simple ceremony held last Friday, December 1.
The ambulance units were received by the chief executives of the five local government units, namely: Badian Mayor Carmen Lumain, Boljoon Mayor Merlou Derama, Compostela Mayor Joel Quño, San Fernando Mayor Lakambini Reluya and Minglanilla Mayor Elanito Peña.
Since the governor assumed office in 2013, Capitol has given 289 vehicles to towns and cities of Cebu province. Distribution of ambulance units is under the Health and Social Services priority of the Davide administration, which is stated in his six-key development agenda.
“Na-realize namo ang inyong katuyuan, ang kalambuan sa matag Sugbuanon,” said Mayor Reluya, in her response as she thanked Davide, Magpale and Provincial Board members Christopher Baricuatro, Jose Salvador and Yolanda Daan.
The governor and the officials also signed the deed of donation, which gave ownership of the vehicles to the five LGUs.
With the ambulance units in place, Davide hopes that the need to transport patients from far-away towns and cities to Metro Cebu hospitals would decrease as the Capitol continues to improve the services of Provincial Government-run hospitals.
“Maoy timailhan nga ni-improve na ang atong health services kung mo-menus na ang pagdala sa pasyente diri,” Davide said.
The governor assured that the turning over of hospital equipment to provincial and district hospitals is underway.
Under the Provincial Government are 12 district hospitals and 4 provincial hospitals in the cities of Carcar, Bogo, Danao and Balamban town.
Vice Gov. Magpale said the distribution of vehicles and hospital equipment is a testament on how Davide prioritizes healthcare for the Sugbuanons.
“The biggest chunk of the (annual) budget pie is diha sa health aron mahingpit ang serbisyo ni Governor Davide diha sa inyo mga mayor,” Magpale said, being the presiding officer of the PB.
Since 2013, the Davide administration has already distributed a total of 34 ambulances.
Davide and Magpale also turned over a total of 52 mini ambulances, 156 multicabs, 14 mini dump trucks, 10 mini-buses, 10 meat vans, 12 motorcycles and a Jinbie truck to LGUs, hospitals and community organizations.
Last year the Department of Health (DOH) and Zuellig Family Foundation recognized Davide and 12 other governors as “champion of health” for the excellent and efficient implementation of their respective local health programs.
