Two municipal employees were found positive after a surprise drug test last June 16 at the Municipality of Daanbantayan.

Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CPADAC) executive director Joey Herrera said that the results are still subject to confirmatory test.

The initial results shown that one tested positive of shabu and another is positive of marijuana.

There are 51 employees, 11 department heads and 11 barangay captains who underwent the drug test.

According to Herrera, three out of the 54 employees in the list for the drug test were absent and they are still investigating if the absence is intentional.

“The main reason for this random drug testing is that I want to show my constituents our support to the program of Governor Hilario Davide against illegal drugs,” said Mayor Augusto Corro.

He also added that they are strongly operating against illegal drugs in their town. They conducted a saturation drive last June 14 in Malapascua Island.

“I always go for due process if someone, especially a regular employee, is found positive. If it’s a job order, most likely the person will be terminated from serving our municipality through the LGU,” Corro said.

He will ask the local legislators to investigate and make recommendations on the penalties to be imposed on the employees found to be using drugs.

Meanwhile, Bitoon Barangay Captain Norlyn Valiente who also underwent the drug test supports the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, saying that it will help solve the drug problems in their barangays.

“Nindot magpuyo sa barangay nga drug free (It is nice to live in a drug-free barangay),” Valiente said.
