More than a hundred couples in the city of Naga realized their dreams to finally march on the aisle of matrimony.
At least 173 couples in 28 city barangays benefited from the mass wedding ceremony last September 3 at St. Francis de Assisi Parish.
The mass wedding is a yearly activity sponsored by the city government of Naga led by Mayor Valdemar Chiong.
Aside from the free wedding rite, the city hall also sponsored simple lunch reception for the couples.
Davide and his wife sliced the cake and made a ceremonial exchange of spoon-feed for the newly-weds.
The governor and his wife congratulated the couple. He hoped his own marriage will inspire them to have a successful marriage.
Davide also praised Naga for removing the financial burden so the couples can get the sacrament of marriage.
He said church wedding is a “dream” of every Catholic couple.
“I hope they will succeed in their union and may they have a happy and blissful marriage,” said Davide.
He also hoped that their marriage will remain strong. He then told the couples to get one seedling of Narra tree in his office as symbol of their lasting union.
One of the couples, Georgina and Gerardo Managa, who have been living together for more than 20 years were very happy for their wedding.
“Di man gud mi ka afford sa kasal sa simbahan. Karon nadunggan namo nga free,
niapil mi para mahimutang nami sa sagradong kaminyuon (We cannot afford a church wedding. When we heard that this is for free, we joined for us to finally settle into the sacrament of marriage,” said Gerardo of Barangay Naalad.
First district Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas also witnessed the mass wedding.
