173 couples wed in Sibonga

Every story may an ending but to newlyweds Lourdeliza Gil, 55, and Sofronio Cuizon Jr., 47, their story is just beginning.

After 25 years of living together, they were officially married and they are now blessed with the sacrament of matrimony.

The couple started their relationship in the year 1990 when Lourdeliza was 30 years old at that time and Sofronio 22.  They were blessed with four children: three boys and one girl.

Lourdeliza was teary-eyed when she shared why they were unmarried for 25 years.

Sa una man gud kay nagnegosyo me nya nihinay man mao gi-prioritize namo ang amo mga anak sa pagpaeskwela mao nga wala gyud me magpakasal pa (The climate before stalled the progress of our business so we decided to prioritize the education of our children instead of getting married),” Gil said.

Miyembro man gud ko sa Handmaids of the Lord so kinahanglan na gyud mi magpakasal arun ma-blessingan amo panagpuyo (I’m a member of the Handmaids of the Lord so we need to get married to have our relationship blessed),”  she added.

Cuizon was very thankful for the local government unit (LGU) of Sibonga for giving them a great opportunity.

Pasalamat ko ug dako kang Mayor Bacaltos nga nagpasiugda aning mass wedding kay nakasal na jud mi human sa pipila ka katuigan namo panagpuyo (I’m so thankful to Mayor  Bacaltos for having this mass wedding. After how many years, we finally got married ),’’ Cuizon said.

The newly-wed couple was among the 173 couples who officially tied the knot in a mass wedding ceremony last June 30 at the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Parish in Sibonga Cebu.

The mass wedding was officiated by Rev. Fr. Antonio G. Quintana and three reverend fathers from Sibonga and Barili.

It offered for free the marriage license, foods, gifts, and photographs by the LGU under the leadership of Mayor Lionel Bacalso.

Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III and wife, Jobella Angan-Davide, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, and Mayor Lionel Bacaltos graced the mass wedding ceremonies. LEE DELA CERNA
