The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Cebu Province continues to provide job opportunities and employment services to the people in the province.
PESO Cebu made an easier way for those seeking local or international jobs.
Gimenez was hired on the spot (HOTS) in the jobs fair held on Nov. 22 at the Capitol Social Hall.
“Dako kaayo nako pasalamat sa PESO kay nahimo siya nga way (pamaagi) alang sa mga sama namo nga undergraduates makasulod og trabaho (I thank PESO for giving undergraduates like me the opportunity to find jobs),” Gimenez said.
Gimenez stopped pursuing a Criminology degree due to financial problems. She couldn’t proceed since her parents don’t have jobs.
During the job fair, she didn’t expect to be hired on the spot by the Cebu Mitsumi Company as production worker.
“Actually, first time pa jud ko kasuway nga HOTS ko kay usually man gud tawagan ra after interview. Blessing kaayo ni naku labi na hapit na ang pasko (This is my first time to experience being HOTS because employers usually call after the interview. This is a blessing for me, especially now that Christmas is near),” Gimenez added.
She added that this is the best gift that she has received for Christmas.
Meanwhile, Mary Lei Canonigo, 19, and her sister, Mary Joy Canonigo, 26, from Balirong, Naga City were also hired on the spot. Mary Lei was hired by Dunkin Donuts as service crew while Mary Joy passed the National Bookstore interview.
Mary Lei who is also undergraduate, due to financial difficulties, decided to apply in the job fair to support her family.
“Lisod man gyud ipangeta ug trabaho, may gani naa ang PESO nga nagpahigayon og job fair alang sa mga walay trabaho sama naku (It’s really difficult to find jobs. It’s a good thing that PESO held a job fair for people like me seeking employment),” Mary Lei said.
She really needs the job for her to pursue her bachelor’s degree. Mary Joy was also thankful that both of them were hired on the spot.
“Happy kaayo ming duha kay kami jud ang na HOTS sa kadaghan nag-apply. Murag swerte namo ron adlawa (We’re happy that we’ve been hired on the spot despite the large number of applicants. It seems that it’s our lucky day),” said Mary Joy.
Around 4,225 job openings were offered and 37 companies participated in the job fair. Almost 1,000 applicants participated in the event and 100 were hired on the spot.
PESO Cebu Province is located on the ground floor of Cebu Provincial Capitol. It is also the office in which employment service and information about the Department of Labor and Employment programs are provided.
