The Department of Agriculture (DA) declared avian influenza outbreak Friday, August 11 after more than 30,000 fowls died of avian influenza A H5 in San Luis town, Pampanga.
According to the Avian Influenza Protection Program, the bird flu outbreak is a stage 2 outbreak which means it only affects fowls.
DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol immediately ordered the culling of fowls in the infected town and its nearby areas to prevent further spread of the virus.
He also ordered temporary ban on the movement of live domestic and wild birds as well as poultry products from Luzon to Visayas and Mindanao.
The Cebu Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) is closely watching over the enforcement of the Bureau of Animal Industry’s order to sanction the movement of chicken and other poultry merchandises.
