This is the message of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas to the people of Borongan and to other towns on Rubys path as they brace for impact when the typhoon makes landfall this afternoon.
After receiving Borongan Mayor Fe Abundas welcome, Roxas conveyed President Aquinos message before public safety officials and local chief executives (LCEs) to cooperate with the national government to tighten and improve its coordination efforts with LGUs.
In addition, the secretary stressed the presidents directive for LCEs to begin the mandatory evacuation of people living in high-risk areas. Roxas also participated in a coordination meeting joined by the rest of the “National Frontline Team” including Presidential Spokesperson Sec. Edwin Lacierda, Eastern Samar Governor Conrado Nicart Jr., Vice Governor Ferdinand Picardal, Eastern Samar Representative Ben Evardone and Quezon City Representative Kit Belmonte.
In the meeting, Roxas also presented before Gov. Nicart Jr. a checklist of minimum critical preparations that LCEs can follow in thei respective localities. He said that the checklist can be helpful not only in the preparations for Ruby but also in the immediate response efforts.
“Mahirap yung nalilito tayo. Kailangan lagi tayong listo (Its hard when we get confused. We always have to be alert.),” said the secretary in one of the meetings with LCEs.
The secretary is expected to stay in Eastern Samar until after Ruby makes landfall to assist in responding to the needs of LGUs and communities in the area.
