Roxas orders safe evacuation of families in affected areas

Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas today (Dec. 6) ordered the immediate evacuation of families living on the danger zones as typhoon “Ruby” shifted landfall site from Borongan in eastern Samar, to Dolores in northern Samar.

In a briefing held in a command post in Borongan, Secretary Roxas informed the local government units (LGUs) leaders and regional police officials to implement immediate evacuation of about 35,000 individuals living on danger zones in more than 27 barangays in Samar.

Roxas said forced evacuation by the LGUs and PNP is necessary in affected communities said to be lying on the path of typhoon “Ruby” in Samar.

Roxas informed the provinces through the provincial directors and LGU heads that “Ruby” changed its course about 15 kilometers north of Samar.

The DILG chief directed the augmentation of police and fire personnel in Dolores town, which will be directly hit by “Ruby” as it landfalls around 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

“We have ordered additional police and fire rescue personnel in areas expected to be hit by ‘Ruby’ to address whatever situation that needs attention as the typhoon hits land,” Roxas said.

He added that the government is exerting efforts t make sure families in affected regions are out of harm’s way during the devastation of the typhoon.
