In honor of the 44 Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) commandos killed in an encounter with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters last Sunday, January 25, Cebu Gov. Hilario P. Davide III announced that the Capitol flag will be on half-mast tomorrow as a symbol of sympathy and mourning for them.

He also said that the provincial government will provide financial assistance to the families of the fallen Cebuano police commandos.

The PNP-SAF conducted an operation in Mamasapano town in Maguindanao to seize a suspected Jemaah Islamiya bomb-maker Zulkifli Bin Hir and Abu Sayyaf member Abdul Bassit Usman when the encounter happened.
